Solidarity with Palestine at VOWC
As a workers' cooperative, our values include solidarity, social responsibility, and support for other coops and ethical businesses. For several years, Valley Organics has stocked a range of Palestinian products, including organic olive oil, dates, and za’atar from Zaytoun, as well as traditional handmade olive wood and pottery from small businesses throughout the occupied West Bank. One of our employees visits Palestine regularly and supports our links with local traders.
Last autumn, we established links with Palestine to support fellow coops, and the women and children of the region.
Since the war in Gaza began, the West Bank has been under military lockdown, and violence has severely escalated, making travel and access to land, work, and medical care near impossible. Last November, Valley Organics set up a crowdfunder to support the people and businesses of the region. Latterly, as the economic and humanitarian situation deteriorated, the local fund administrators, with our blessing, redirected the funds to help meet the more immediate needs of the local community, providing food and medicine.
With the scale of this crisis intensifying, Valley Organics has set up two new initiatives to help boost donations:
- Firstly, since January 2024, all profits received from the sale of our Palestinian products goes directly into the crowdfunder.
- Secondly, and this is where you come in - we have added a regular giving option to the crowdfunder. This means that you can now set up a regular donation at a frequency of your choosing. Every penny you donate goes directly to the local humanitarian effort in Palestine.
